Nobles are supposed to be snobs, willing to spend money to outdo others , and using the best, the premium material. And yet, here these noble ladies are buying their bad tea from the same shady place, not going to the best store that openly specialized in selling reasonably priced, excellent tea, and even gets a Royal Warrant.

Why would those other ladies buy tea from a sketchy scammer that's not from Triple Sweet? Even in modern times, if you buy something from a vendor and it sucks, you don't say that the product category is bad, you just say that the brand sucks and then just buy the brand that everyone recommends.

@hanfeizi People don't deserve to get sick because they buy cheaper goods. The government realized this when people started to literal die by the hundreds from things like flour being cut (like cocaine dealers do in modern times) with various suspicious white powers. If you were lucky it was chalk if not it was rat poison. Pure Food and Drugs Act was passed by Congress on June 30, 1906, the law, which was enforced by the Agriculture Department's Bureau of Chemistry, prohibited the introduction of mis-branded and adulterated foods. Later amended the next year with the requirement to accurately label ALL ingredients in food.

And that shop is pretty middle class looking not some back alley drug dealer. The lady's it's targeting are, like the shopkeeper assessed poor noble lady's who have a title but not even the money to own their own carriage. They wish to follow the trends of society but can't buy the even the "reasonable priced" tea of that the upper nobility buy. Tea is still a luxury imported item. Hell, before the English stole tea out of China, took over India and enslaved the native population to work tea plantations, tea was very very expensive in Europe.
