You're right, I was focusing on the skills themselves I hadn't even considered MP management. But does Life Shield cost mp? That'll be a something of a dick move to have a skill cost MP and still require to sac 20% of your HP. I think most of his mp usage outside of Half-dead is Shield Bash and Parry.
Also rather than tripling his mp, which no doubt would help, wouldn't having some sort of mp regen accessory be more beneficial for a healing strat? Don't really need so much mp if you can negate the mp drain of HDSD lost all together.
As I recall, it's actually really cheap. The problem is that heavy knights have very little mp to begin with. That's why max mp increases should(?) have more value.

We haven't seen enough of the mechanics to know how mp regen works, but yes that would be good.

from the web novel's translation
"Furthermore, if I manage to secure some method of restoring my HP, then it would in effect mean a 20% increase in my HP.
Only, it’s a non-attributed use of magic, so it takes quite a bit of MP.
It takes 【8】MP to activate in the beginning, then it slowly takes another 【2】 every minute.
Once used you need to wait some time before being able to use it again too, so it’s not a Skill that you can casually spam whenever you want."

so the cost is 8 + 2 upkeep per minute in the web novel

I'm taking that's for HDSD? Thanks, that just further proves me point towards the usage of it only for killing blows, the way it's currently being used, and discredits him becoming "unstoppable" with a healer.

Though as cryum mentioned about upping his MP value and me saying to look for mp regen is extremely viable and something he should look for (if it even exists).

no sorry my bad that I miss read your post what I said was about Life Shield

Half-Dead Savage Dragon is a passive skill it has no cost

〈Half-Dead Savage Dragon〉【Special Skill】
When the user’s HP is less than 20%, Attack and Agility is increased by 100%.

Relentless Vigor acquired in chapter 40 of this manga on the other hand does use mp (it's a toggleable skill)

〈Relentless Vigor〉【Normal Skill】
Can only be activated when the remaining HP is under 50%.
It lowers Defense to 【0】 and increases the Attack by the same amount.
While it’s activated, it continuously consumes MP.

not sure on how much mp it cost though

Life Shield cost 8 mp with a 2 mp upkeep per minute

Still helpful, thanks for all the information.

Not quite the pull skill I expected, but a mid-air platform works even better. Luce chained off her Acrobatic Steps skill from it into an attack followed by Elma's Shadow Step at just the right timing to help her connect. Excellent teamwork, although Isabella was rather useless not only in this sequence but the entire fight. She just facetanked one hit, got knocked down, and taunted the boss once.

But man, even in Luce's greatest moment of glory so far, Elma just had to deal the finishing blow? C'mon. I'd have liked it if he struck first at some point and she landed the killing blow. Oh well, at least the teamwork and strikes looked cool (mainly Elma, he kinda stole Luce's thunder here). And here I'd have thought this arc was supposed to show off Luce's spanking new killing moves.

Oof, only two levels gained. You can feel the high level exp grind showing.
Gaining two levels for killing a single enemy is a LOT. In Ragnarok Online we could work to the bone to kill a boss and he'd only give half an EXP bar

The desperate combo move, do anything to stop/halt/slow the enemy down before delivering the fatal/final blow is very shounen-esque
