@anoman i assume this author copy the idea from this short which has been serialized in shoujo web magazine. but instead making some improvement he/she just lazily reverse the gender and make self insert comics instead.
though nothing wrong with this type of manga, having a predecessor with better character, world building and storytelling kinda annoyed me a little bit.

@ch0si the content doesn't seem to be similar besides the fact both have a Noppera-bou, one is set in highschool and the other is about a salaryman with a yokai girlfriend.

@anomanbased on short it's actually similar bcs noppera-bou set in after hs and both character met again. The serialisation change the story and make them date in high school. So yeah, the base premise is actually pretty similar. not to mention this manga is published in pixiv.

@ch0si:

As someone who's read some of both of them, I can't say they're even remotely similar beyond two key parts of the premise (romance, noppera-bou)... This one reminds actually me more of some other one where one of the partners' head was missing entirely. Also, personally, I like this a decent bit more than the "Noppera-bou" webcomic... That guy was kind of creepy personality-wise—even if that was partially to-the-point (e.g. culture-clash)—they're just different kettles of fish. It's fine to compare them, but bashing this one so blatantly in favor of the other, over and over, probably isn't going to make whatever point it is you're trying to make...

(I mean, yes Japan loves to copy and re-hash ideas; the culture seems to value originality much less than a bunch of Western cultures do, which has good and bad sides to it... but at the end of the day, manga wouldn't be what it was if it wasn't about shamelessly copying other people's ideas.)

@Pokari i'm not bashing this manga tho. I'm bashing the cannibalistic side of japanese media (anime,web novel, manga) and bashing self insert entertainment in general. If you like this, it's okay. I like few shitty manga and i'm okay with that. Didn't change this manga into masterpiece instead of self insert manga with supernatural theme.

...Either your definition of bashing is significantly different from mine, or your words sound very different in your head than they do once put to paper.

Well, no matter.

Culturally, there's actually some interesting (if unanswerable) questions about why we might value "originality" differently—like, for entertainment media in particular, does originality even matter? (The difference in attitude has much larger impacts in other parts of our society, of course).

Conversely, while I'd agree that Japan shamelessly copies it's own stuff more than western cultures do, on the surface the average plot premise for a given manga is way more out-there and weird than in western stuff; how are these two things reconcilable? But I digress...

just ignore him
@ch0si doesnt know shit about whats he talking about as Noppera-bō is a type of japanese yokai, its not based "on some other manga" its just a romance with character from traditional folklore
this way you could say that nearly every disnay creation is shit, as nearly all their movies (specially older ones) are adaptations of european legends/folktales or stories for children
with your logic every story with a knight and dragon is trash and just a copy of whatever the first one was
