@Cecelea It's starting to look like Johannes loved the emperor's previous wife (and the Crown Prince's mother), so he married Shuli based on that resemblance. The count/kids' uncle has no social decorum so he was about to spill the beans, which is something the current empress (and Nora's dad, for some reason) doesn't want

So this chapter was so confusing that I had to refer to the Spanish version (even though I'm not very good at Spanish) because it was easier to figure out who was talking to whom about what.

For a quick recap for those in similar boats:
[ul]flash back— 17 years ago at the imperial palace, the count is getting in trouble for making the special Imperial-owned purple flower, and is berating Johannes who won't help him because he "needs to go" and "has work," even though he spends quite a while staring at a portrait of someone who looks surprisingly like Shuli?[/ul]
[ul]Shuli says that their marriage was basically a contract and she had married Johannes for the opportunities he provided. Church folks start yelling at her, questioning why Johannes would pick someone troublesome like her[/ul]
[ul]count remembers moment with portrait and Johannes, starts to say something, Empress and Duke? seem to realize[/ul]
[ul]Empress proceeds to shut down the trial, calling eveyone stupid beasts for making it a farce, and then shuts the cardinal up by implying that he needs to wash his mouth with soap, shame on him considering his mouth is supposed to convey the holy teachings[/ul]
[ul]Prince says jk, just a huge misunderstanding, we're actually friends, Jeremy and I[/ul]
[ul]Empress admits Shuli is awesome and deserving of the title[/ul]
[ul]Kids cheer her on, Nora admits his undying love, declaring that he will forever support and protect her, even if the world becomes her enemy[/ul]

From my understanding, Johannes married Shuli because she resembled the late empress? Though I'm kind of confused as to why the current empress withdrew the trial but I'm guessing they might've realised it also?

Hrmrmr this chapter is a bit confusing but the part with Nora makes me happy

I think part of the reason the queen allowed the trial in the first place is to drag the church's true intentions out. Although on the surface, the government and church are supposed to be allies, the church seems quite ready to backstab the government for their benefit. But because the church represents such a strong unifying force within the country, the government can't take open action against the church. And Shuli is already caught up in the middle of this conflict, though she doesn't know it yet. It's been hinted at in the previous chapters, but a strong and independent noblewoman, particularly one as young as Shuli, goes against the church's teachings. Shuli's very existence undermines the church.

Could it be that the current Empress hates the former Empress? Is that maybe the reason why she stopped Count Reicher before he might have said "Shuli resembles the former Empress"?
