For some reason, I'm reminded of the type Romulus and his horde of men were all like "we want wives and we're awfully lonely in this city-state you built, Romulus. Let's go get some."

And they proceeded to mass-abduct the Sabine Women en masse. Ironically, the Romans were better husbands than their families and so they made the choice to stay because they had more rights under the laws of Rome at the time.

(Note that the name is a misnomer-it shares the same root as the modern understanding of the word "rape" but in Latin, the verb "rapito, rapere" simply means to "snatch or seize." Livy makes note that no sexual assault took place because of how Romulus wouldn't tolerate it.)

Ok it ends “well”, but...if they take the women to marry them, couldn’t the barbarians at least find a way to inform people at home.
I mean, FMC was conviced for years that her friends passed away...
Easier said than done. They didn't have the Internet back in the day. And every other kind of communication is likely to be cut off in wartime.
Maybe ask some merchants to send a letter through third country?
