That being said, I'm being a hypocrite since I'm also reading this to see whether or not he will break out of his emotionless shell.

On one hand, I think Dowun's motivations are horrible. On the other, I would have pushed the kid to do that too. In a place like the palace, kid's going to be a danger to himself and everyone around him until he learns his actions have consequences, and he ain't gonna get no respect if he can't take responsibility for his own mistakes. For him to grow stronger as a player and a person, the lad has to step up here.
But as I said before, this is ultimately Dowun's fault. He should have made sure the boy understood the situation they're in and who the opposition is. He needs to take some responsibility too, and he needs to realize that your side is not strong if you leave everyone on it weak. Even if you view people as tools, a good craftsman takes care of his tools.

I think the world he lived in isn't a kind place. It's a place where you must grab everything you can if it does not make you lose anything, and will help you in your goal. Emotions are just a part of logic's plan. If you wish to be involved with him, you gotta have to deal with that.

This is so conflicting. I don't like that Dowun is coldly using his brother like that, but I agree that Do-Gyeol spoke too much and it's his fault another person was punished. On the other hand, Do-Gyeol is very young and was deceived by the other princess.

And yet, ultimately, it's the Emperor's fault: he's not a natural disaster or the embodiment of karma, but a man. It's because of him Hong Lyon was living in precarious conditions, he's the one who fosters a court where ass-kissing is the key to success, and, well, let's be honest, Do-Gyeol was right about basically everything he said about him.
