My reaction every time a new chapter of this comes out is weird. Unlike most manga/manhwa that I read where I feel giddy and excited whenever a new chapter comes out with this, it just feels very eerie and creepy like something big is going to happen but I don't wanna find out. I have no clue why I feel so nervous about this story in particular maybe because it feels so close to home but not (obviously)... I don't know... Nevermind don't pay attention to a mad man's ramblings.

OH NOW YOU"RE FUCKING...!! Ugh! I'm trying to kindly think of you, and thinking maybe you can change now as you were just a child. But for fuck's sake! As much as that is a clever move to get on her good side, how much more are you going to use her mother? I wish all that buttering up slips you to the line you want to cross and further to a cliff!

This comment lololololol. Say it louder for Dowun to hear, cuz he can only listen to himself!

idk how to take in dowun's actions. he's either trying to manipulate her more or make up for his past actions. either way, vibe check not passed. i'm being a hypocrite because i really want redemption for dowun, but this is so unsatisfying. maybe i want to see him grovel with his forehead to the ground.

@Mah_Buddy_Keith, It's very subtle, but their dialogue reveals that he also helped build the memorial EACH YEAR and not just that first year. He has nothing to gain from this action after their engagement is secured so why spend the time doing this? I think he was making two very harsh points with one analogy and simply underestimated how emotional she would be about it. Now go back and compare his expectations of Lyon concerning her father's death to how she actually responded. Why did logical and manipulative Dowun expect her to be more emotional than she really was? Because of everything that happened between them concerning her mother.

@Kusarin, It definitely is an intriguing story. I've reread almost every scene since they grew up a little bit. People keep hating on Dowun but I think he's behaved consistently and honestly towards her. Which, unfortunately, does include harshness. It's not a love relationship but it isn't lacking respect or completely devoid of warmth. Meanwhile she's been antagonistic towards him and acting like she's one step from breaking their deal. Plus I just can't trust an adultwho stares so intently at a little girl he doesn't even know which is the foundation of Baek's relationship with her. 😬

I would like to thank you cute and sexy commenters for your support. Some people might tell us that yelling in the Mangadex comments cannot change the plot of a story that has already been written, and they may be right BUT they cannot silence our passion. It is the fate of an impassioned reader to write unreasonably dramatic statements directed at fictional characters. Perhaps, in some universe, Dowun is sneezing to death because of all the shit we talk. Let us hope for a beautiful resolution!

Baek Han wasn't staring at her because he's a creep. He was doing it because she reminded him of his past self. He says it in chapter 6: "She had the same expression I did back then".

At the time it wasn't clear to me, but I understood it after it was revealed in chapter 25 that he was adopted. Judging by that quote, he probably had a rough childhood until the Baek family took him in.

So back in the banquet she was there, looking utterly miserable and isolated, which caught his eye. Then the prince noticed her too and asked about her to a eunuch, who then explained she was his sister and that she had lost her mother at a very young age and that she had basically no one to take care of her.

So it's no wonder Baek Han felt sympathy for her. During the fire he probably saw her begging for help while everyone ignored her and decided to do the decent thing instead of fulfilling his duties as the prince's bodyguard.

I am aware. I'm also aware that it was the crown prince who made it extremely creepy. All I'm saying is that for almost 20 chapters Baek Han was a guy who stared at her. He did rescue her, but his job was to be with and to protect the Crown Prince. So Baek Han is either treacherous or a hero who - after securing the CP's safety - risked his life in a fire a second time just to see if somebody was still in there. It would be a complete coincidence that he saved Lyon. If so, she has built her rescue into something it shouldn't be. She has no reason to be beholden to him aside from possibly sparing his life once.

Deep down, Lyon is still that little kid that craves affection, and he's probably the warmest person near her besides that maid, so it's completely understandable that she'd want to get close to him.

Baek Han was the first person that helped her without asking anything in return. Even if rescuing her was a coincidence, it doesn't invalidate the fact that she feels grateful for it and that he burned half of his fcking face for her (I bet she feels guilty for that).

Besides, I doubt she thinks he specifically went back just to rescue her instead of her brother. She most likely thinks he pitied her (I'd wager that's the reason why she never asked why he did it).

Despite that, I'm sure she still has feelings for Dowun. She keeps snubbing him because she's afraid of getting hurt again by his coldness. Completely understandable too imho.

Regarding Baek Han's treachery, he was always walking beside the prince like his shadow, so they must've been together when the fire started, which makes me believe he went back after making sure the prince was safe.

Baek Han was shown to be selfless and caring towards others (for example, when he asked Lyon to spare the old lady as well), so I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to go back during the fire simply to help whoever was in need.

@Mah_Buddy_Keith Yes, I agree that wasn't the best move but to be fair he did that in the past and, after seeing how it affected her (making her want to get away from him), I believe he regretted it. It would explain why (in the present) he went through the hassle of having her mom declared a royal concubine and having her tablet placed alongside others of the royal family. He claims it was to lessen dissent but it seems more like a tsundere way of explaining away his actions without saying it was to make her feel better. I still think that for right now, he is an anti-hero. We will have to wait and see if the author wants to redeem him or turn him into a full villain.

I love that when he's mean to her, I'm all confused about whether I like him for her but when he does something nice, I immediately write it off as him trying to manipulate her. Lol My sense of trust is all twisted with Dowun.
