I am so confused, may be i am stupid, but when he said "Would you go out with me in purely platonic way" and then she start talking about how she is happy "This is first time I have been confessed to." BUT does not in purely platonic way mean that he want just non-physical relationship like friendship? Doesn´t it mean exact opposite of confession? Can somebody explain it to me? (English is not my first language.)

They basically never interacted with each other, he asked her to be friends, it's a first step, but at least it's a step towards maybe something more.
