It's like having a set course in life, I guess. She had already accepted the arrangement and the consequences of the decision, so to suddenly have this kind of change can be disruptive. She's probably having trouble adjusting. It's also probably troubling her, that she may think there's something about her people found undesirable, which is why it was called off, and a hit of emotional damage.

Forgot to add: breaking engagement with royalty, even from royalty's side, is basically a banishment -- if not outright death sentence.

1. Royalty wouldn't want smear on their honor of someone they deigned (even at one point) to marry a prince and carry royal blood, marrying a commoner.
2. She is basically banished to live alone as a recluse from society at family home to get her shame of royals out of spotlight. As any time she is seen in public it would "shame" the royal family.
3. Prince here literally sent a hit squad after her to kill her, as "former fiancee died of pneumonia at home" cover story/buried history generates a sob story. And tarnishes the woman as "of poor health and unable to properly bear an heir".
4. Versus "royals broke off engagement unilaterally, shamed her into hiding, then ended the Marquis' line".

The kingdom has already shown they want to manipulate history, and records, by that crappy novel.

If the author wants to be consistent with his I-only-care-about-my-village-and-not-about-others, then our ex-hero will still not going to do anything. His village is still safe, after all. But what do you think he will do?

just to make you aware, the bit about gunpower might better be translated as a powderkeg. it's an expression thats used to talk about a volatile situation that would explode under the slightest bit of stress. it's not really saying that universe has gunpowder just that the situation is tense and could explode at any moment
