this was so awkward I had to speedread
I do think that Rin's low self-esteem will slowly improve as the series goes on, but at this point it does feel awkward when he repeats the same "I am crap and anyone who treats me like a human being is a saint" monologue despite every person he recited it to basically telling him it's nonsense. I get that these issues do not go away in a hurry, though, not the most confident of people myself.

Add honesty to the list of this man's virtues. Even revealing his school might ruin his chances to gain her mother's approval, yet he told her the full truth. Fortunately, Mrs. Waguri is emotionally intelligent and wise enough not to judge him solely based on such things. The cake he earnestly put his heart into making has really come a long way. She's got a point too, some shallow playboy would never go so far as learning to bake a customized cake for her daughter. I'd say some actual love is necessary for that kind of effort.

"The two of you are in a relationship, on equal footing."
Beautiful, truly. I'm only at chapter 56 and I feel like falling in love with this manga all over again. Like, I'd add it to my favorites if it wasn't already there. It almost feels too good for me and makes me feel like I want to protect their love, because it reminds me of a shining ideal. Not perfect, but the kind I love to see. This really is what I should read when I feel like I need healing.

Kaoruko's mom was right, Rintaro was halfway to treating this like he was asking for her hand in marriage. But in any case I'd say he's already halfway won that part with this, no? This went great for them.
