Our main couple has more in common than they think. Their considerate, kind, strong and often selfless personalities make it hard for them to ask for help. Saku really nailed it with his analysis, and he said it out loud too.
Oh? Our guy dyed his hair black! He also ditched his earrings.
...I'm guessing it's one of the few things he thinks he can do to help. The death glares the Kikyou girls gave him surely had an effect.
It could backfire though and become the cause of a quarrel with Kaoruko, but I'm not betting on it: it's not like she only loved the wilder looking version of him. She isn't that superficial. And that kind of shallow drama would feel out of place and out of character. If she doesn't like it, they'll talk it out like sensible people.
