Well, based on my hazy memories of events I think we've already passed in the manga but were given more detail in the WN, I believe that the leader IS basically acting out a grudge on this subject bc he's envious of how well liked & respected the MC was within his guild (w/ a dash of paranoia that the MC would somehow usurp his position as leader), so he's not exactly behaving logically. That being said, I think based off of a lot of the comments here the manga hasn't really illustrated well the guild leader's core beliefs on this subject, which actually ties both of these situations together. To the leader, the "results" he's concerned about question are almost exclusively combat-related (personal combat strength, direct contribution to successful labyrinth raids, etc.), & anything outside of that bubble is basically worthless. As such, he feels like Laurent is dead weight bc his core abilities revolve around the support & development of other members, & OFC he wants his up-and-coming combat specialist (who, for bonus points, is an attractive female) to be the one handing over the goods so she & the combat group get attention/praise. He's not quite so much hypocritical (though make no mistake, he IS that as well) as he is narrow-minded.

I was actually kind of shocked that the guy tried to have a "Results" based mindset meanwhile ignoring the fact that those results only come about because of someone's effort. Like, how does that make sense? The whole point of the "Results" based mindset the character is spouting is to allow anyone who can get the job done to get it done, but somehow the character is trying to make it the opposite and say that if you need to TRY then you're somehow not good enough? It sounds like this is kind of stuff a bad guy is supposed to say but would never say because it makes no sense.

I've seen people with a similar (but also opposite) view in the comments for another manga, (the one with the ambiguously related siblings exploring a dungeon that appeared in their basement, I can't remember the title) they're opinion was that you needed to show results, but if no visible effort was required to achieve those results then the results don't count.

The story really is interesting. It is one of the unique plot that is used by quite few LN/Manga so far. I would have to say though, the plot might not become a good anime due to the progression (but we'll never know unless someone makes it).
Art direction kind of sours things down, it is improving but I hope it can get even better.

probably in like 20 chapters the art will end up looking a lot better but at least its not too bad

Well, artist ability isn't really so much the issue here so much as corner-cutting seems to be, imo. In this chap there were two pages right next to each other where it seemed like the MC was just copied from the same source art (though not completely copy/pasted), which probably contributes to weird-looking panels since they're not individually drawn for each convo:

I know it's some kind of magic, shaping the raw ingredients into a desired look. But can't you just... melt them back down? Are all of those cups now considered junk? Does the silver degraded to such an extent when failing? That seems rather impractical...

So when she makes her magic goblet thing and "MaGiC" goes wrong it cracks, ok, but why does that make the entire thing worthless to the point that the room is filled with cracked goblets!?? Cant you smelt them or anything?

I know it's some kind of magic, shaping the raw ingredients into a desired look. But can't you just... melt them back down? Are all of those cups now considered junk? Does the silver degraded to such an extent when failing? That seems rather impractical...

Perhaps the problems is that, whilst they can be smelt again for normal silver, as far as magical silver goes they're useless.

Another possibility would be time constraints, since smelting and turning metal into proper ingots ain't exactly an instantaneous process, and they're working on a deadline for the competition.

And the third possibility would be quality-based, since the girl is looking for silver that CAN withstand the magical energies and all the other cups proved that their materials simply ain't up to the task.

Good lord, this story is jagged as fuuuuck. The concept is alright, but the actual construction of it and the base writing is...just kinda shit. Not the translation mind you, that seems perfectly fine, but it just jumps all over the place with no transitions and no explanation of certain characters. Like, the random bitch from the Golden Hawk guild who came over wanting to buy the metal at 100g a bar, who the hell was that?

I am glad the Knight girl appeared again, her sudden introduction and then disappearance felt so weird. I half expected her to go talk to him face to face after she was introduced but only now does she appear again. Feels weird but whatever.
