Man that last line and how womanhood comes in different forms...that really hit me man. I love how nuanced the narrative is on womanhood and sexism is in this story! It's difficult to find a webtoon/manga series that shows such dimension on real life issues as this. Started reading for the romance, but staying for Paul's relationship with her identity as a woman and how this theme is presented with her interactions with others !

@Serisan hey, sorry I read you comment and this is only my opinion, so I hope I hope I did not offend you! :)

I understand where that thought came from but at the same time, I would love to see Pauliana make decisions that do not involve her survival. Becoming a soldier and fighting was never her choice, in fact she said “ I never wanted to become a knight”.
The validation and acceptance she seeks is not because she is just a soldier, but that she is also a woman. She does not want to erase that part of her identity. This is because she had to work harder than any other man for the title and prestige she now holds. She wants that to be known because of it.
The only and first person who acknowledged both parts of her was the emperor. He sees her as a formidable woman and a very capable soldier. He accepted and recognised both parts of her which, would not disappear no matter the nature of their relationship. That is all she wanted in her life and that is why she looks up to him and trusts him so much. He knows Pauliana is a strong woman, whether she is a soldier or not. This chapter demonstrated through the princess, who herself says how amazing Pauliana is to even approach to what she sees like an unreachable wall.

This is one of the best chapter 😭 Symbolism of what being a woman is and how that affected everyone and Sir Pol ❤️ I enjoyed it here more than the novel's.

Hoping Sir Pol wouldn't lose her sense of self along the way!!

Thank you for translating!

I love this character growth of learning to empathize with someone else's struggles.

The novel was more on being ambitious while this webtoon is more on being recognized. It's more subdued, but nonetheless, I'm still happy with how it handles female characters, one of the best there is tbh. This topic never gets dialogues in webtoons.

@moderateTrouble yeah I agree with you on how some stories just breeze through sexism. Take for example, Empress from Another World, it could have been more, given how she was from the modern era, but she didn't do much for women. At the end, everything was solved without us readers reading through something poignant such as this chapter.

So will she want to be more like a woman now? Well at least experience something... Maybe get frisky with the emperor...

what a beautifully nuanced and capable way of handling this topic. It would have been very easy to let Paul continue to dismiss Lady Stra’s grievances because it’s a grievance that Paul herself can’t empathize with, but instead we got to see Paul’s views be questioned and opened up to show us that there’s more to resisting patriarchy than to completely reject femininity. everyone has their own way to live and thrive and sir Paul was able to understand this thanks to our bedridden Lady Rebecca 😅

I also would like to say major props to the writer for not putting down either women’s world-views or life choices. It’s incredibly easy to uphold one over the other but I also believe that both lifestyles are valid in their own right. thanks for the update!!!
