Touching the pot handle with her bare hands? I wonder if she has super powers, or if the author just didn't think about it?

Still, I'm all on board for where this is going. It's pretty rare in a shoujo manga to have a protagonist that is considered ugly like that, so I'm really curious how they're going to handle it.

@icekatze ugliness is not rare just uncommon. some have them use it as a weapon others bring a method to remove it entirely somewhere along the plot. As for touching a pot, a short touch is usually fine to gauge if it's hot or not, whereas the lid is usually cooler and the handle more so. I have never had an issue lifting the lid when cooking despite it having a metal handle. The reason is that only the pot is getting direct heat; the lid has limited contact points at the top and the handle is further still for the heat to travel.

In my experience, the only "ugly" protagonists I've seen were just somewhat overweight, and usually end up losing weight over the course of the story. But I admit, I'm no expert.

As for touching a pot, there are certainly some modern pots that have safe handles, but I've never used a cast iron pot/skillet/dutchoven that I would want to grab the handle without protection.
