Might as well ask why their eyeballs are so big as to leave room for only a small brain.

Thrilling Etymologic Note:

Hebrew “baraq” (sparkle) → Hebrew “bareqet” (emerald) → Greek “μάραγδος” /ˈmaragdos/ → Greek “σμάραγδος” /ˈsmaragdos/ → Greek “σμαράγδινος” /smaˈragdinos/ (having the appearance of emerald) → Latin “smaragdinus” → English “smaragdine”

Lol I Googled smaragdine when the word first appeared. I like how I came back to the next panel to being about people Googling it.

I’m glad that there is some recognition for smaragdine. Gosh, people always say “green” but never “smaragdine”. Geez

In all seriousness though, thanks to @yuriproject for working on this all-inclusive manga!

Cute story.

To save the googling :
"Smaragdine" is basically just the fancy/stupid way of saying "green" (emerald green).
It’s more of a turquoise color and Japan doesn’t have a hard distinction between blue and green.

Still... She could have been named after a gemstone color...
