Just guessing, but he saw his mission when he was ten and so far every character has remarked about the time when he was little, so it's probable they are talking about the time before he was thrown into the heroic chamber of exposition.

But then again, it's not like this story has been a bastion of clear continuity so far, so it might just be cheap drama bait that isn't tied to the timeline in any logical fashion.

Just read the whole thing up to this chapter today. It's really missing a lot of exposition. Why does he need the heroines to hate him? I'm 99% sure there was no mention of something happening to them if they cared about him. So far it's about gathering "evil points". With the MC having penalties if they found out. No signs at all of dangers for the heroines themselves.

I read through this again, the first specific mention of the reason in the webtoon is in chapter 20. This is roughly the same time it happens in the novels, so the late explanation isn't an adaptation only thing this time.
