Holy sh*t, that Lady Snowblood cover page! (a classic film from the 70's based on a manga <https://mangadex.org/title/4121/shura-yukihime> that was also one of the major inspirations for Kill Bill)
Part of me wonders if the princess is a metaphor for some sort of mother figure / goddess of mercy that watches over her children / followers that she considers as friends as they get caught and die, and she deals with her grief / provides them eternal rest and salvation via comfort eating / bringing them to the abyss or Valhalla that is her digestive system...
Delightfully existential if you think a little too hard about it...
