It makes you wonder though. Just how mentally ok is Leslie actually? Is her shadow magic really sentient, is it her imagination, where she is actively pretending it is sentient, or is it a mental issue where she subconsciously created a "entity" to protect herself, which her subconscious controls for her, appearing as if it is another being, when in actuality, she is doing everything herself, but doesn't realize it? She certainly has more than enough trauma to allow for the third option to exist, and if this were not a fantasy story, I would bet that that's the case.
