I'm fully aware that people do what they have to in war, I'm just saying that, from her perspective, if I were in her position and had experienced that, at the very least I wouldn't say anyone who decapitated my dad and used his head as a pole topper didn't "seem like a bad person."
Also, the war was arguably over by the time they started trying to drive her remaining people out, so that defense really can't apply to that one.
