@Promontfort Yuri is a genre that depicts homosexual relationships between women. Japan typically uses this single category for all forms of these relationships, sexual or not. In the West, the term Shoujo-ai categorizes stories that focus on the emotional aspects of the relationships, while Yuri categorizes more of the sexual aspects and explicit content. Yeah Shoujo definition used here is purely Western, as in Japan Shoujo-ai is a synonym of Lolicon.

@Promontfort Pretty soon, nothing. The two tags are scheduled to be merged into Girls' Love after the site rewrite (as will Yaoi/Shounen-Ai -> Boys' Love), as the only thing people who actually still use Shoujo-Ai use to differentiate it from "Yuri" is covered by content tags.

@Promontfort shoujo ai= girls love (specifically young girls) is sometimes used for pedophilia source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuri_(genre) well in japan that is. More serious answer: While some use it like Tcof said it is far from universal. IIRC on https://dynasty-scans.com/ most prefer to just use yuri in general partly because of the pedophilia connection. (might be confusing it with some other community though) So don't expect it to have consistent non overlapping categories. Edit: so many new answers before I sent this one^^ Edit: Ah nice prefer girls love to be honest.

Where on Earth did you get that idea? 少女愛 (shoujo ai) literally translates to "girl's love", i.e. a love between girls.
There is zero relation to lolicon themes, unless otherwise specified, like Yuzumori-san, for example.

Shoujo ai shouldn't even be a tag cause in JAPAN it means love for girls (teens or less), the tag gets used in west cause aparently subtext romance and straight up hardcore lesbian sex is a different genre. Don't go saying people are misinformed when you are clearly the lne who didn't even bothered reading and understanding what Lilliwyt said.
