That's not how inflation works. In fact, that's pretty much the opposite of how inflation works. It would have been a lot more amusing if he whipped out a stack of the highest valued coins from the game, and they were now so devalued that their base metal had a higher price. He still would have gotten contemporary currency from the sale of monster body parts just the same, only the scene would have been more amusing. It also wouldn't make him so overwhelmingly wealthy with a currency that's so pricey that it's functionally nonfungible, as no one will be able to make change from it. It also would stray away from the 'O M God, everything--EVERYTHING--from the game/past is so much more powerful/valuable/betterer' effect, which frankly gets stale quickly.
