Why does MC has to fight? or even go to that place? Logically thinking he has nothing to gain for going there but a lot to lose, especially having his strength and resources.

@KamiKira00 It's tied to his roleplaying as an adventurer starting from the bottom. So, the real question is why he wanted to do that. I'd suppose it's because he's a gamer and in an average RPG, you'd join the adventurer's guild (or equivalent) upon entering your first city, if it's that sort of a game. He was basically doing what he's used to doing (in games). You can also see some answers in his basic behavior, which is pretty subservient and lacking pride, aside from his blacksmithing skills, perhaps. He wants to act publicly but also wants nearly nobody to know he's a high human, so he's acting like a regular chosen one with an amiable attitude. If he had outright refused the invitation to the castle, he would have attracted more attention than by accepting it. It would have also resulted in the nobles/royals pestering the guild about it. What comes to the bout with the princess in particular, maybe it's half his typical Japanese servile and authority worshipping nature and half his own interest in fighting.

I love how Schnee can say that with a straight face. Do it, Shin. Actually, get engaged to Schnee for real. That way, even the princess can not use any political tricks to force him when she's competing against someone as important as Schnee is. Based on that logic I'm also not sold on Tiera as a viable anti-marriage proposal "excuse" to the kingdom, but I'm definitely sure Yuzuha won't work, immorality aside.
I see princess Lyonne just loves wielding these big-ass swords; it should be reasonable to assume that Muspelm is most likely her main weapon now. So she's a battle junkie tomboy princess, and I guess her chosen one stats help her easily lift these greatswords one-handed.

One doesn't need to join an army to get a medal. You just need achievements. In ex-USSR, you can even get a medal for rising a lot of children well.
This medal is, most likely, from the death game days. He has certainly done enough there to earn a medal or a dozen.
