He was in a hurry to give her the Dragon heart and thus make her live as long as he does. He literally blackmailed her by tricking her into a promise and then refusing to allow her to take it back without sacrificing her magic.
He figured that as long as her life was prolonged, he'd have time to make it up to her and make her forgive him, eventually, "maybe a couple of centuries of wooing would do the trick" kind of thing...

They're both terrible, really, but personally I find they're well matched.

However, I can't hate the FL because she's literally my personality made into a character, lol.😅
I don't even hate Aiden, because his behaviour makes sense in the context of the story and his character design.
I just hope the writing will be as solid while making them better people, but then again they're currently the bottom of the barrel, so the only way left now, is up. 😒

@Aurantix That's not quite how the beginning went. She coldly used Aiden in an attempt to relieve her grief when she lost her years old crush to another woman. Aiden barely existed in her eyes before that, so it's justified to say she used him. Furthermore, she was in a position of authority due to her department leader's position, even if Aiden was from another department. That was their first, significant meeting as a man and a woman. So, it was Wendy who started the whole string of unfortunate actions, not Aiden. She also regretted it, which means she recognised what she did as an improper act. Sure, Aiden proceeded to perform his own fell deeds afterwards, but unlike the haters in this thread say, the blame is hardly solely on Aiden's shoulders and thus I wouldn't go as far as to say he blackmailed her. She promised what she promised because she knew she was in the wrong. He collected on the promise in proper, though ruthless, spirit.
