I like the villain archetype that knows a bunch of historical and mechanical information about the world. It makes her threat level solid and means our hero will have to go beyond what the setting currently considers possible. Her desire is also tangible and humanizes her despite the insane personality she has. Not only that, but her goal ties directly into our main character being able to get back home or not.
Once again the Elves are to blame! Interesting how everytime something horrible the elves did gets revealed, the witch tries to one up them on it even though her ultimate goal is better than theirs was.
