I think Purchinov's monologue to the griffins from chapter 43 tells you everything you need to know about where the authors stand on Ukraine, and why Purchinov is now also the satirical Anti-Putin, rather than simply a parody of shirtless Putin propaganda pictures. (Chapter 43 was released in the month after Ukraine was invaded. They give him the X scar four chapters later.)
To add to this, Putin at least could have been a respectable, based Warlord, but the complete mishandling of the conflict (like, absolute Russian failures compared to the epic victory that was promised), and then the exposure of the absolutely oligarchic, kleptocratic nature of the Russian government really hurt his legitimacy. The fact it became widely known in Western Nationalist circles shortly after the war that Putin was actually
hated by Russian nationalists because he weakened the military, and politically and socially speaking is a Globalist (90s) Liberal who routinely denounced Russian nationalism (including have them arrested and giving 'Diversity is our Strength' speeches), while having incredibly pathetic and mewling diplomacy with "Western Partners", just ruined all his appeal outside people who are literally paid to like him or deluded Christians.
Purchinov never had plastic surgery and won his position of power through strength. He really is an anti-Putin in that he embodies the propaganda we were fed about Putin, which itself is the eternal longing for a just God-Emperor: frivolous, fun, righteous, strong, gaudy, and beloved.
