Thanks for the chapters :hearts:

I've always thought this ever since I started reading Youjo Senki, but I like the faceless spirit-like depiction of god in the anime more than trying to give the god(s) a face

Yeah I always thought the same thing, Being X being this formless entity talking through whatever object or person that was near by made him seem way more imposing.

Hurrah, two chapters at once! Glorious slow motion train wreck slowly starting to pick up steam. Interestingly and very very minor spoilers,
this upcoming Russy war is where the Empire is finally forced to start recognizing the limits of military action and begin using geopolitics intelligently. But of course it's way too late by that point and it still doesn't filter through the whole of the Empire right away, they really needed to be doing that precisely when they felt military was the answer to everything. That's one of the core paradoxes Youjo Senki explores and makes for such an interesting and "realistic" military story despite the mix of magic into it since it's a failure mode IRL in history as well, armies or whole countries getting intoxicated on early victory and failing to grasp the gathering counter pressure.

The eldritch abominations aren't eldritch or abominable enough. They should be more.

And where are the tentacles? And the spaghetti?

Thanks for the chapter

Also, this chapter really shows all they care about is worship. How dare these non-believers seek peace? So they push them to war.

They are based on mythological entities, one was Quetzalcoatl and the other Seth.

this is not what I said.

Stuff I learned about religion from the time my mom was ultra religious.
  • Depicting God may not align with the beliefs of various religious and cultural groups. It may also risk oversimplifying or anthropomorphizing a divine being, potentially diminishing the transcendence and mystery associated with God in many religious traditions.
  • Depicting God as an spirit-like existence aligns with the abstract and transcendent nature of God in many religious and philosophical traditions. It respects the beliefs of those who view God as beyond human comprehension and form.
Except it was, you especifically said "like in the anime" and in the anime the Gods are depicted as human-like beings with their faces covered.
There is no mistery nor anything in it, the only one that interacts with the world uses objects and people in that world to do so but when they show the form of it they are human like.
Depicting the various gods in different shapes is more "abstract and transcendent" than what is shown in the anime, which was my point.
Also this "align to various religious..." doesn't matter. Nowhere in the story says those Gods are the ones from religions IRL so it doesn't matter if a lot of people don't see the God they choose to believe in in them.
