You know, it's really obvious the bias and framing the english release put on this series when they translated "Youjo Senki" as "The Saga of Tanya the Evil".
Ah yes, I wonder however they could get that impression about the nazi-coded war criminal, truly a mystery.

You know, this series made me think about how few manga (none I've read) bring up the issue of menstruation, as if it doesn't exist. Que fuck, Japan?
I actually read a manga recently, it was none other than nisioisin who brought it up, and with a magical girl character at that! There was several comments about how talking about it is frowned upon in the conversation, so maybe that's why.

Apparently there's a tradition of giving red rice to the girl the day after. That also was brought up in the conversation...

Anyone who is trying to read this Manga in English do yourself a service and read official translation. The first few chapters I read were so badly translated I thought about dropping this manga, even if later translations become better I still wouldn't recommend risking it.

How is this 5 volumes behind? This manga deserves better... The good news is that the official translation has already caught up with scanlation so the pain almost over.

When the soviet alt/substitute nation enters the scene, author (via MC's internal monologue) conflates communism (in its many more 'pure' forms that Marx and Engels initially theorized) with the various forms by which communism has historically been subverted (stalinism and other so-called 'red fascism' movements) and is 10000000000% a hardcore libertarian, but this shit is good af anyway.

"Grandma could only use simple spells"

Clearly never saw Grandma's "fuel-air-bomb-technically-not-a-war-crime" spell!

I think you misunderstood. The Grandma died at 92 and according to the letters, at the war time she was the same age as Tanya. But this is not Tanya. Grandma was a sister to Gantz.

I think it's Tanya that visits the cemetery at the end. 80 years later and Tanya looks like she is in her 20s.
