Tonight's translation notes:
- ugh, a whole load of stuff about Kemonotsukai being like his name because his name has the word "beast" in it, explaining his poor behaviour. If only I'd localised his name, I could have used "Beast by name, beast by nature" when Samson is trying to smooth over Kemonotsukai standing up to the King. Alas, you reap what you sow.
- Samson had a GIRLFRIEND who spread a rumour about him having piles????
- the rodents at the end speak with stupid delinquent accents. I refuse to leave in honourifics in a manga obviously not set in Japan (despite the names... I know...), but my worry about localising accents is that you end up shoving in connotations that don't belong there either. I feel like the flying squirrel and the regular squirrel have ended up sounding like a terrible pastiche of New Yorkers which obviously has no place in fantasy Meso-America, but then neither does Iwamoto placing the burden of Japanese social structures upon them, so that's what you're left with.
- something I thought I should mention; the sinkhole (cenote?) is regularly described as a fuuketsu, very literally a "wind cave" (which makes sense given how Xilonen describes it to us). However, apparently the term for those in English is a "blowing cave". I thought that sounded stupid, so I've been leaving it as sinkhole throughout. It's clearly supposed to be a giant cenote given that this whole arc is an Aztec knockoff (and the Aztecs used cenotes for sacrifices by throwing people inside them), but there's been no mention of water in the bottom of the Green Hole as yet so I've not localised it as such.
