My personal problem with this is that despite ivona's good intentions she and claude actually helping the demon lords minions with the cure. The entire point of the demons fucking with the statue of purification was to destroy peoples faith in the church and even though the problem has been found thanks to ivona her cure is still doing the demons work for them. She absolutely needs to get out in front of this and tell people that the church is not to blame for the statues failure, and that the church is a vital part of the nation.

I know this seems counter productive for people that believe this is an evil church trope, and maybe it is to some degree, but i genuinely believe the church at its heart not an evil organization in this manga. If it was, then the demons wouldn't be trying to make it fall through trickery.

That head priest has fallen into corruption thinking that his ideals are the same as God's and going against what he said is the same as going against God. He wasn't able to provide a proper argument about treating those currently sick other than making statues which will take time to build out of special materials and transport for each one. Rather than caring more about his flock he's more concerned about reputation and appearances. Frankly, by his reasoning if everything belongs to God then the idea MC had to make the cure (especially considering she went back in time,) is thanks to God, and the materials used were created and provided by God as well so he has no basis to complain other than his own prejudice and desire to control. His reasoning that the church hadn't had to deal with black magic before is a pitiful excuse. Black magic exists and was used, so now should come up with a counter along with ways to help those afflicted and dying such as helping to spread out the cure not banning it because the corrupt clergy feels it's taking away the church's prestige or that said prestige is more important than lives.
In any case, while it's good Claude backed up the MC, he should've been a little less confrontational and tried to explain that the cure was thanks to God blessing his wife with a smart mind, a big heart, and the bounty of herbs she's able to raise to make the cure. Granted that arrogant head priest was full of himself and taking his misconceptions as proof but throwing him out like that could be taken as a slap to the whole church and likely cause trouble down the line.

Also, demons aren't just trying to ruin people's faith in the church, although that is one of the main reasons, but to weaken and kill as many as possible with the plague as well. It's like the idea of wounding rather than killing on a battlefield. If kill someone only they are out, if wound them then not only are they out but the person or persons trying to aide them. In this case it's killing or weakening as many people as possible while demoralizing and reducing the faith of those not infected.

I just burst out laughing when he called ivona an evil witch. Usually we have black hair and red eyes portrayed as witches but Ivona's appearance is so normal that it felt weirdly funny

Yas hubby, defend your wifey! >u< Anyway, the best route for the church was to make a deal with Claude and Ivona, that way both figures (the church in the representation of god + and the couple in the representation of the nobles) can cure the people and show that they stand in the same one side, God would be then important for both, and they would be respectful towards everyone's lives, so in that way, none of them would suffer any kind of loss, but ok.

@AiriAi If you noticed after he threw the sword part of the glove he wore on his right hand was burned away. So he can hold it briefly but it does burn him. So I wouldn't say he can use it really.
