I found his reaction really natural, contrary to a lot of other mangas which tend to drag it on and on. It seems like a lot happened but let's not forget that it's only the 22nd chapter. And, even though mc might have looked somewhat dense in this chapter, to me it looks more like this event made him realize his feeling rather than being dense since it's the first time they get in this kind of situation (as more than just friends).
