I can roughly see where you are both coming from but imo,
(The Unsuccessful Yet Academically Unparalleled Sage ~A Cheating S-Rank Sorcerer's Post-Rebirth Adventurer Log~)
One could say that there are lots of unsuccessful academic genius and successful academic dropouts. But not in this case.
There is no such thing as shit but cheat. You are either OP breezing through life or you are seriously struggling for legit reasons. "Cheats" that get the short end of the stick like Naofumi(Shield Hero) are not 'shit' but that series doesn't revolve around people thinking he is useless to begin with.
Then there is the Index series where people don't even realize his ability exists (which is also somewhat fine) until maybe late in the series[on top of natural bad luck] (i remember nothing after Accelerator)
The real problems are stories like say... Rakudai Eiyuutan, that OP slime summoner story etc, whose story premise is about MC being 'trash' but secretly OP, gets involved with high leveled people that NORMALLY wouldn't care about peons, win, lots of wow. Different flavors of pretty much the same story is stupid regardless of how popular the trope is. Its becoming cancer like almost every Wuxia/Xianxia story. Not all of them are garbage but easily 95 out of 100 are technically garbage, regardless of whether we like it or not.
There is no such thing as Heroic Failures. Pick one. You can't be both at the same time. #4 out of 100 sounds pretty successful to me and that number is only going to get 'worst' when he reincarnates.
Now that i think about it, these cancer stories are like fried chicken. Popular enough to be everywhere, most of them taste the same, only a few actually really good ones.
@Meridis
Thanks for the practical guide to evil. I technically hate villain(?) stories (to the extent ditched Tyranny because of it) so i guess eating offals would be a good alternative to the usual chicken, fish and vegetables.
