I do love the fact that no matter what or who gets close to her, she doesn't change her personality from who she always was... She doesn't become dependent on someone else.. I do like that.

I never liked Oscar 🙄 if you read the novel you will see that he's just a useless decoration in this story

@goldenstream i'm pretty sure that the point of him, he's a trophy, a decoration to spite the other with, a sign of victory you could say

He's been introduced already, though I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't expect him to be the male lead--given there's no build up to it at all. It's that guy that attacked Aria when she went to go pick up the Hourglass. He's the Prince.

She just kinda falls in love with him, very shortly after she finally gives up on seducing Oscar. I nearly dropped the novel over this--since she really did start to develop feelings for Oscar over the course of the next couple of arcs. She fell in love again too quickly, in my opinion.

But Oscar is such a good boy. He is like a puppy. I feel a bit sad for him.

I actually quite like him and he would treat his other half really well... Kinda like Izekiel from WMMAP. Relationships that are meant to not see the light.

How sad...

I kinda liked Oscar at first--but you're right. At his core he's a wimp that couldn't do jack shit to his sister.

At the very least, I'm glad he didn't end up executed. Lacking a spine isn't worth the guillotine, imo anyway

Does she end up with the fiance she trying to win over to crush mielle spirit.
No Aria end up with the man with blue eyes.
Oscar like Aria but break up all contact because of his sister's pression
He became a puppet and cannot express himself.
He always be in Aria boat but have his hand and foot tied by his family, only able to ignore Aria's pain and hope his family don't mistreat her.
At the end of the story he is the only one from his family to survive but his is demote to comoner and we don't know what append to him after that.
He take it quite well don't worry, living free as comoner is less stress for him than living with his family at the duke's heir

It's been awhile since I've read the novel, but I don't remember Aria actually falling for Oscar? I thought it was more like she wanted him so she could make Mielle suffer.
Rather than sad that he rejected her, I assumed it was more like despair at failing and fear of being beheaded again

aria never falls for oscar. oscar is a means to an end (revenge against mielle), but he becomes absolutely useless when aria discovers that oscar is just a figurehead of his family, and can't go against his sister. aria is very strongwilled and resolute. she's a villainess with a brain, and doesn't get distracted by love in her quest for coming out on top of all the chaos she will cause. not once does she fall for oscar. she finds him to be a cute, pitiful guy at most, and a pawn (albeit useless) at the very least.

Well, Aria had a mental breakdown when he had rejected her in a letter and kept ignoring her afterwards, and only the new opportunities given to her by Asher, such as that "secret discussion club", helped her to keep her sanity. Oscar was some sort of hope for her, a symbol that the fate may be changed, and the nightmares about her own beheading have never left her until Mielle's execution, so losing him at that period of time was a very huge blow for her. Even if it wasn't love, at the very least she relied on him a lot for the moral support.
