In this chapter, it's not that Kay is weak and unprepared. It's because Michitaka is one of those people who will keep going even with lost limbs and holes in his body.

I really hated when he was first introduced. An utter sexist bastard with an obsession with rules and forces his values and beliefs on others.
But

he is someone who is a force to be reckoned with. And best as an ally which happens twice iirc.

Rereading this, I still can't understand Kay's thought process. She's interesting.
