A lot of people have trouble describing this manga, yet they consider it a masterpiece nonetheless.
This is a story about stories: a fictional period piece about the goings-on of several lost and broken people living on or visiting an island steeped in the supernatural and afflicted by two wars (one very old and one very recent).
They all come for a variety of reasons, all of which can be summed up as "the easy way out" and all are faced with the choice of making a change or facing the consequences of what they run from. And they all run from cutthroat backgrounds.
Some make the change, some don't, and some are too late. A black comedy about the desire not to be lonely by people who don't recognize that at the start.
