I really dislike that plot device. It's so bad. Essentially saying "we know the number of years you will live, and this makes them go down" but there's no real way of telling how many years someone will live in most manga it's used in (death note, for instance, with the Eyes that can tell the time of death could have used it but never did lol). Just leave it at "damages his internal organs" and could cause them to fail. Internal organ failure is really serious, after all, and often freaking fatal.

Stupid authors.
