Haha, yes, he did need to ask. By asking he allows her to respond with this little teasing "no...well...do you have to ask?" thing, which is a clear signal that a) YES I want us to kiss, b) you probably don't need to ask next time and c) I like to tease you, so get ready for fun. They're both awkward motherf*ckers so he asked awkwardly and she responded awkwardly and it took him a page to figure out where she was headed, but all is well.

Notes for the autistic: When Person A asks for something and Person B responds, "Sure, no problem bro! You don't have to ask for that!", it is still a good thing that Person A asked. Person B isn't actually saying that Person A should not have asked. Person B is expressing how happy they are to fulfill Person A's request.

Notes for pathetic virgins: silently smushing your face into somebody else's face because you were afraid of looking like a virgin is what makes you look pathetic. Children do childish things because they're trying so hard to act like adults, and they screw it up. Adults just ask for something whenever they need to.

First time I thought I was going to have sex, teenaged me just pulled the condom out of my pocket and THREW it down on the bed like a boss. My equally awkward girlfriend was like "AGH why did he do that, is this some sort of established signal in the sex industry HE THINKS I'M A WHORE." This did not lead to us have sex any sooner or better. Just ask for things.

@AnonymousWeeaboo Whoa there, fella. This is 2020, and what you're describing is rape. Both parties must have their attorneys write up physical contact consent contract and must sign it before a registered notary. At a minimum, the contract must stipulate that the non-male party (if any) may nullify the contract at any time with or without verbal or non-verbal cues.

Honestly, what the fuck is this shit?

Yes, he asked, as is the sensible and normal thing to do the first time. You know, to make sure she's ok with it, since they're dancing around the issue but they're not really in any sort of relationship.
And she's unhappy about it?
Wtf is wrong with your head, girl? Oh I get it, in japan they have rape culture. She wants him to take her by force

This is not cute, or endearing or anything. It's just shit.

Main Girl , I agree with you and I myself like assertive girlfriends who touch/kiss/grab without asking. Major turn on.

But in this more sensitive generation in the USA, assertive = rape. So even if we are together, if I don't ask, then I'll get crucified.
I just hope things get back to normal one day. Where a stolen kiss is seen once again as romantic than an assault.

The girl just want her BF to be more assertive and have more confidence. Notice how she pause a bit before saying "no". It's her way of saying they're already in a relationship so he doesn't need to be timid over every little thing.

But the thing is, he didn't ask consent for unprotected hand holding did he? If she didn't totally reject him for something as lewd as that then why would he need consent for kissing?

In all seriousness though, I'm incredibly dense and unable to read situations at all, so I would 100% ask for consent. It's not like I can read minds or anything and I think he did well for asking if he didn't know. You don't want to do something your partner hates after all.

A whole lot of people in this comment section need to review this

Also, stay off of Tumblr, that stuff rots your brain.
