The issue of trying to tell a NEET that it's ok is that, if it comes from a working person, it's going to sound incredibly condescending. NEETs don't want, or need, your pity.

Yeah, I'm not surprised the author's acquaintance's daughter may not have been too thrilled about this. "Be more prideful of your NEETness"? Probably not the best message to convey or encourage, especially to actual NEETs. But it made for a solid story here, so it all worked out in the end.
