I think what is shown here is basically what it is, though it would be for a shorter time (usually only a night), usually in the girl's parent's house, and also include the girl being bundled in a sac that would go up to her neck (the boy would sometimes also be sewn into his own bag).

I only have passing knowedge on it so i may be completely wrong on what is referring to and if so i apologize.

If the room sharing is anything like how French royalty used to do it pre-Revolution, the couple would "go to bed" with select courtiers looking on for a certain amount of time before retiring to their quarters. When I visited Versailles, the tour guide implied this was a measure for heightening the perception of trust in the Court, but also to check the progress of alliance-based marriages (such as that between Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette). I very much doubt they actually watched the couple *coff* consummate *coff* the marriage, but it was implied they'd receive encouragement, especially at a young age, to demonstrate public affection.

But in this case, looks like it's just a formal/ritual measure to encourage intimacy between young royalty, without witnesses (which seems a risky play on the Empress's part, but since Canaria already affirmed she will be a loyal tool, I guess she figured it was safe).

Also, being called "pedo" just because she gets the adorable little brother(-in-law) she always wanted is unfair!

In a more large explication. Spouses and wifes of noble family Don't Always share a bedroom. Each ona has a private bedroom. But for child conception, they must share the same bed sometimes ; so…


And it facilitate when the spouse takes concubines or have one night adventures...

Interestingly, there were some ancient Near/Middle Eastern cultures that had a custom where the bride and groom would spend their first night in a tent in the middle of the wedding afterparty, so the guests could hear that yes, things had been consummated. This is referenced as far back as the Epic of Gilgamesh, where one of the main complaints against Gilgamesh by his people is that he'd go into the tent first and NTR the bridegroom in full hearing of the wedding party. (You also see traces of the custom in Absalom's revolt, where he sets up a tent in full hearing of the public and sleeps with all his father's concubines to prove he's the king now.)

What's really crazy is that the European dynasties after a certain point often raised kids who'd been politically betrothed together from very young ages, and the Westermarck Effect (which drastically lowers any later sexual attraction to someone you spent a lot of time with before the age of five or six) potentially kneecapped any attraction those couples would have had, which is another reason consummation of royal marriages really needed to be confirmed or even encouraged by courtiers in those situations.
