Will be interesting to see how the writer handles the classic "You lost the competition by doing the right thing. Therefore, you win by secret rules." a.k.a., the Wonka—Charlie Effect (see film, not book). Otherwise, we'd see the father as sociopathic and cruel, out of touch with the needs of the people, or quite possibly "rules with an iron pocketbook". We'll have to see how the story unfolds. :3
