Bro basically instigate her into doing it and can't even protect her from critictism properly, no logistic either, he's basically tell her to kill her career/herself just for shit and giggle and for his own sense of justice. I don't know why a 50 yo man think this would be a good idea, extremely childish decision just to stroke his ego.

With his exp he absolutely know that she will not come out of this battle unscathed. Of course he's untouchable since he's the golden boy of kdrama, not her. He just basically pushed a vulnerable woman into a den of wolves and walk away. Very scummy behavior from him.

I disagree, he had no idea of knowing this would happen. He didn't know her past, nor did he know how far the corruption went. He only encouraged her to report the crime, nor did he tell her to commit suicide. It was her decision alone and is not fair to blame it on him.

I'm glad she's still alive. I knew something would happen with Hyejin, but I did not expect it to be this extreme. I was expecting something else, like being blacklisted or something along those lines.

No bro, this is not a butterfly effect, this is your direct influence haha

This is finally a dilemma that he hasn’t prepared for, so it’ll be great for the story to see how he figures out how to untangle this mess that he has “obliquely” caused, that is to say, if he does figure out a way.

It’s been going to smoothly since high school, it’s about time the MC faces some real obstacles—moral or otherwise.

I like the jab at current day media, who rightfully should be protected under the "freedom of speach" rules most countries have but I also think that they should be able to be held responsible for the damage/harm they cause when spreading malicious and blatently false information under the guise of "just reporting the truth".

I'm not sure how it could be done without it being exploitable to "silence" unwanted media by influential people/corporations but I wish it would be possible somehow.

Bro he's like 50 years old. With his exp in entertainment industry, of course he know this will backfire on her. Especially if its a single actor vs a huge corp. He had no idea, lmao. All I see is that he instigated her into spilling the bean and then walk away, once shit hit the fan, he just realized that his action have consequence, lol

Remind everyone again, the man is at least 50, or 60 years old. He's not a little kid or a 18 yo boy. Lmao.

If you encourage someone to spill the bean on a huge corp. At least took some preventative measure so that the backlash will not be that bad. The man setup 0(zero) logistic up ahead and then susprise that the actor try to kill herself after being relentlessly attacked by the media. He didn't even try to call her to offer some assurance or said that he will help her either, even when he knew how bad the character assassination campaign will be on her just from the press conference alone. He just shrug and said "Damn that's crazy" and then went on with his day, even when after the convo with her. He knew she's emotionally unstable. Of course she will kill herself knowing she will not have any future career left and her reputation will forever be stained.
That's why whisperblower program exist kid. To protect a witness against a huge corporation. Anyone who said "He didn't know" as a defense seem to forget this is a grown ass elderly man, not just a grown man. Lmao

And he can just walk away after discover the scheme the CEO try against him too, doubt he will have any trouble with it. But no, to sastify his own ego. He has to instigate her into exposing a huge corp that can litteraly do a character assassination campaign without any defense from her. This old man need to get his ego in check before he ruin(litteraly) another actor life with his shitty ass sense of justice.
BTW, he didn't offer any advice, his dialogue is a classic case of instigating. i.e brush off any concern of her. Just force his viewpoint on her, etc etc.
Legally, is he wrong to instigate a vulnerable woman into publicly speaking against a huge corp? No, ethically? 100% yes because he's in a position of power and he can help her to mitigate a lot of media fallout issue. If this story came out, would it damage his career? Probably no since he's young (Audience wouldn't know he's already 60), but if he's already older than that (like 25 or 30), this will absolutely damage his career too for being a scummy person, even if the media went out of their way to cover for him.
Overall, this is a very bad story direction from the author as he didn't factor in the age of the protag (Basic info) before going forward with this arc. But oh well, we has to make some sacrifice for a weekly webtoon series

Nahhh, they're making pretty great points. His advice, although nice in theory, was generic and tone deaf given not only his knowledge of the specific circumstances of people working for that company but also his decades of experience in the industry, which - given the way that he himself died, to an extent - should've given him ample insight into how easily it chews people up and spits them out again, or how it can isolate you from any loved ones capable of protecting you at your lowest moments. It was very shortsighted of him to basically go "try harder" when she started ranting about how cornered she felt lol, especially when he himself couldn't and wouldn't do anything to help. I wouldn't go so far as "bad story direction" though. I actually kinda like how it shows some of his character flaws, when a large potion of the manhwa is built on showing us how in his second life he is basically the kindest, smartest, best person ever (not that this makes the story bad)

i think some of these comments lack nuance. hye-jin was at the behest of her company attacking another celebrities by exposing their private lives, her actions did not affect just herself and threatened young-guk's and potentially his loved ones livelihood as well although unsuccessful, that behaviour just could not continue unchecked

people are also talking about him not thinking the advice moment this many steps ahead which i think is a little strange as well. young-guk was visibly not in a calm, rational state at the time. he was 100% talking to himself from his past life and projecting himself onto her because of how the situation reminded him of his failures, he was unearthing his trauma alongside her and got emotional which led to him expressing his mentality in a clouded, not entirely logical way. when he thought that she had to change something or challenge the status quo, to me it directly correlates to his fear of repeating his past life which drives his actions. that "try harder" mentality is what he thinks for himself and is fueled by his guilt, regret and shame. i think this reaction is entirely understandable given the context

it is callous (not just to the fictional character but in relationship to suicides in general) to say that he "instigated" her suicide by offering that advice after perceiving that she is desperate and miserable. you make him seem like he was putting a gun to her head and forcing her to do something. she is an adult, a vulnerable one but still an adult, she has weighed the pros and cons and decided to put herself at risk in order to expose the company and has explicitly stated as such over the last few chapters. young-guk cannot be held solely accountable for her attempt

i don't think he has the power and authority to intervene on her behalf. his career could end just as easily as hers were he to act and it could be pouring oil on the fire, making her situation even worse. he doesn't have much information on the situation nor past life intel either, what to do you really expect him to do? stop the media? so long as she remains a celebrity there is no real safe space to turn

also i thought it was quite clear that his seat was vacated in the college during the last panel because he does intend on helping her out as he feels responsible for the situation which is why he skipped class, i find it odd people have said "so he's not going to help her". are we reading the same chapter?

Honestly that makes perfect sense haha. I was just thinking that his advice to someone obviously in a bad space both mentally and literally was a bit thoughtless (not that he solely instigated her suicide attempt like the other guy claimed, more like he partially contributed to things spiralling so badly/quickly due to not thinking things through properly), since he must've known that encouraging her to go against the people with enough blackmail and leverage to make her unwillingly start a scandal at the ceo's behest was reckless - i thought he should've been more cautious since he knew he lacked the abilityand authority to do anything on her behalf should his advice backfire.
but hindsight really is 20/20 tbf and his speech was more him talking to his past self (ig what I meant by character flaws?? As in he's not perfect all the time lol and makes mistakes when emotionally charged) than purposefully turning her against her bosses. It's obviously not completely his fault since she was an adult who knew the risks of what she was doing and didn't have to go nuclear in such a way that would ruin her career, but it just seemed like his words were the spark that triggered this turn of events. You are completely right though, this is just how I feel about it.

Though when I said that he couldn't or wouldn't help her, I meant that he wasnt able to do anything at the point in time he told her the advice until something bad had already occurred. The chair thing was pretty obviously him going to do whatever he could to help.

Personally, i think an arc like this has it coming for a while now... MC is getting overconfident after basically getting success after success with no proper thought or retrospection since well if it works it works, right? Now he'll be forced to properly consider his actions instead of just "huh butterfly effect? Cool, what can you do?"
