WHAT THE F- ?
Do people in other countries not cook with pimientos? That's new for me.

Regarding to the hotness scale, we use them precisely because they are not hot: You can add them to a lot more stuff, but is almost never eaten crude because honestly it tastes kinda lame that way. We don't even think of it at something added to make stuff spicy. We tend to cook it with the protein (Chicken, beef, even Tuna!) to enrich its flavor. They are essential to almost every Fajitas recipe to my knowledge, but we also add them to the barbecue when doing chuzos (beef and chicken breast on a stick), it makes it taste sweet instead of bitter which is strange.

By the way, if you make your kid eat that thing crude. Its obvious the kid isn't gonna like it. I relate so much to Lily to be honest xD

@Raknasuu wait, you don't eat pimientos crudos? (We call them pimentón down here) they are nice! We use them a lot in salads and cooking too, it's a staple in my home and children love it because of their crunchiness, what children usually hate here are onions, because we traditionally use the red onions and those can be too strong for them, otherwise I haven't heard of another vegetable that is despised by children here

The reason they're unpopular is because they're somewhat bitter. I'm guessing the raws (which I can't find) refer to ピマン which you could certainly call a green paprika since they're bell peppers, but it's kinda different from what Japanese call パプリカ paprika which are red/yellow in supermarkets and generally larger. My experience with the smaller green ones is that they're noticeably more bitter than the red and yellow. Children have more sensitive taste buds, which is why certain foods are commonly thought of as hated by children. What's somewhat bitter for an adult is even more bitter for a child.

Meh. I'm far from a picky eater, but I can't stand bell peppers either. They're one of the only things I go out of my way to avoid eating. It's not because they're spicy or bitter, it's because their texture is gross. I'll eat chilis and habaneros all day.

I can understand not liking bell peppers if they are cooked since they usually become bitter and texture might be "ickey" for kids but just washed, cleaned and in a salad it's, if anything, sweet and somewhat crunchy.

Yes, some people actually do. And most know the taste of pimentón crudo. It's just that it isn't that common to put it on salads and stuff.

If you say pimentón you make me think you are either from Colombia, Perú or Venezuela. I might be wrong tho(I was). By the way, I live near the coast so stuff might change if you go deeper into the mountains. But I don't remember encountering pimentón crudo in any of my travels at all. Except on Subway, which is stupidly overpriced on here.

And yes, onion is always an issue with kids. I had problems with onions myself. Tho I like the red over the white one as the white can get too crunchy. I might be the picky one. I cook with both.
