hell, my feelings. I was here only out of curiosity on how russian origin of a character will be utilised here, well poorly, it's just a minor gimmick with almost fuck all to do to the character, and here might've been an interesting dynamic of ppl from two vastly different cultures clashing and having a lot to actually get to understand each other. and what do we get? another over the top elite school with elite kids BS

You'll get a bit of what you were looking for if you hang around long enough. But the manga is working up to that at a glacial pace, so I wouldn't be surprised if you gave up before that.

It doesn't show up anywhere here in the manga, and not really in the anime either, apart from the one scene I mentioned

I don't think any character is actually part of the cover, some just look similar to them. I don't think it's that deep as "X works secretly as a gravure model". Especially given their school was sort of high society iirc and I don't think rich industrial or influential political families would just put their heir (which might already have a marriage arranged) on the cover of some random magazine...

Yeah, it's referenced subtly whenever Maria's locket (or the bear) is onscreen but not lampshaded directly.

The part I'm hinting at comes around right after the ever-popular beach arc. I can't imagine a publisher bailing ahead of that.

One significant character (along with that character's siblings) either is already confirmed to be a working model, gravure included, or will be so confirmed very soon. It's not much of a spoiler, really, but it does hint that it wouldn't be impossible for other students to have similar gigs.

Because underneath all the attitude and perceived haughtiness is a sincere young woman who gives it her all in everything she does. Even when it's difficult, even when it's painful, even when she's completely out of her depth; she's always trying her best. Even with all of her talent and natural ability, not to mention her family standing and popularity, she doesn't coast by on her talent or look down on and/or demean others as "beneath" her.

Add on the fact that she's an objectively beautiful young woman who has no few cute moments in his presence, and you've just about got what a lot of people would consider the complete package: attractive, sincere, hard-working, kind, and very capable. It's the reason she's so popular at the school. Then on top of that you have to keep in mind: she's only confrontational with and giving grief to Kuze. To everyone else she's polite and ladylike. And- correct me if I'm wrong- he doesn't hold it against her because he knows why she's so hard on him, namely that him doing the perceived bare minimum to get by runs antithetical to her own beliefs of giving it her all. Especially when she knows full-well that Kuze is much more capable than he appears yet continues to slack off.

But she's a rude tsundere, which for me absolutely kills any appealing qualities she has, since she'll hide them all behind her sass and garbled Russian

Masha confidently and unhesitatingly states that's her boyfriend. And she's right. From a certain point of view.

Primarily that she is a very driven, passionate person, while he's an empty husk of a person who doesn't care about anything. Interacting with Alya kind of motivated him to do things for her.

I mean, just me or is the sister the only girl with any personality? FMC is just a generic tsundere with a bit of Russian spice, and the rest of them are side characters.
