this is purely a personal opinion,
but this story would be quite interesting if the author didn't introduce too many female characters. It just makes me lose focus on the chemistry between MC and FMC.
kubo-san, takagi-san, and next door angel were quite good by solely having a focus on the MC and FMC only.
damn it, just make up your mind author-san whether you'll go with the couple growth story or generic fake-harem story with many heroines only to be used as a plot device.

True, I liked angel next door because there was no harem

please don't get me wrong,
I'm not saying harem is terrible. As long as the author stays true to the harem premise till the end and no crying heroine just to add spice to the tasteless drama. Then I'm OK with it.

The reason, I disliked "My Deskmate Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian" was the author kept adding more and more heroine (?) just to be a filler and plot device. FYI, That was the spoiler in the novel.

I don't need that kind of boring drama,
I just want to know more about the background story of MC and FMC and they steadily growing as a couple without adding any fake drama just to be closer as a couple.

I see, sorry for interpreting your comment that way

Idk I've read the novel up to date and still don't get it... How is this a Harem does two people liking a person considered a Harem? And I'm pretty sure the end is already decided on Alya so I doubt it'll be a harem...

this series is extremely overrated

the idea of an entire series based around fetishizing foreigners is just weird. the japanese find it weird when westerners do it on them but the other way around is fair game apparently.
She's half Japanese half Russian tho...

If that's the case then it's called a "third wheel" and if they still get in the way when they're already together it will evolve into "homewrecker" but these characteristics typically belong into harem and it soon became a standard

5/10. A few chapters in, but I'm having trouble really connecting with the characters or the plot. It seems like a very bog-standard take on a RomCom intended for young men with little to no texture or depth. Beyond the premise of the MC being able to understand his classmate when she speaks Russian, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot here.

Maybe this will change as I continue to read, but for now I'm struggling to see why this is so highly rated. I see myself dropping this series fairly soon.
