this is the right question, tho. She isn't scary. At all. She's quite nice, in fact. This is a fundamental problem with the writing.

While we, the readers, may not see Kyoko as scary, we can't exclude the perspectives of the characters in the current time, and we've just witnessed from her cousin, Yuri, confessing that the FMC does, in fact, come off as scary most of the time, so MC being a 'scaredy-cat' is a totally normal and expected response.

I actually thought about it later, and I think there may also be a disconnect between what "scary" means to rabidfish. For many people "scary" is just "horror" or "fear" and not "intimidating." They might find a serial killer splattered with blood "scary" but wouldn't call a "stern teacher" character "scary."

So, it's very possible that Rabidfish doesn't see Kyoko as "scary" despite the traits being applied in universe of "intense eyes" and the idea of "she's older than him" as "scary traits." Which would explain the disconnect.

Now that's just a theory, I don't know Rabidfish personally or what their personal definition of "scary" is. Just trying to give them any benefit of the doubt
