I maintain my theory that Dad was actually the mangaka of the one they like, it’s based on him and her mother when they were in highschool, and he threw it in the fire specifically because he can’t look at it without feeling visceral embarrassment over it, either because it’s his first work and therefore inherently cringe to the creator, or because he keeps flashing back to all the embarrassing stuff he did as a teenager whenever he sees it.
