I was just thinking how much this chapter was meant to allude to Akari... and I suspect it's a red herring. I'd say Akari is somewhat more likely to be a vampire herself by the series end. There's more than a bit of foreshadowing setting this up in earlier chapters, including even introducing the idea that such a thing doesn't always lead to resentment and tragedy like in most vampire fiction. (the happy vampire family)

The part that catches my attention in this chapter is how, on the last page, they intentionally set up a contrast to Sophie now versus back when Haruka knew her. Suggesting that, yes, it's going to be different this time around somehow.
