Depends on the depth of his technical knowledge.

For example, if that stalker has just planted some surveillance software on the phone, then it makes a perfect sense to return the device to his target.

This might be weird, but I actually kinda like the annoying protective friend trope. I like the stories where someone thinks someone else might be trouble, but then slowly ends up learning more about them and realising they’re just a good person.
