The thing is, I don’t mind a main character who’s too nice, where we see him go out out of his way to help others. Unfortunately, often times it completely lacks any actual depth and completely surface level.

Like without rereading any of the few existing chapters there are, can anyone name off the top of their head any of his hobbies and interests? Or perhaps any unique personality traits, aside from his compulsion for being helpful?

The mc in Miyu chan will always be your friend is a good example of an mc who’s too nice imo because there it’s portrayed as an actual flaw that other characters point out

In reality MMC would have gotten sent to the dirt fast. If the guy truly had a reputation for a short temper then some stern words would have done nothing.

"Short tempered" guys are usually much more willing to get physical with a girl they think they can overpower vs another guy who might threaten them
