Your usage of "scummy" is hyperbolic. The gods never leveraged taking away the blessings in all the instances you mentioned IIRC. I don't even think they've ever done that in the series. Their deal wasn't particularly strict or formal; some level of flexibility could easily be expected. The more appropriate interpretation of their actions is "childish" in my opinion.

@collagen

They were supposed to give a blessing every 1 or 2 centuries(or between several decades?) iirc. Fenrirs are Ninril's holy beasts, that's why Feru has her blessing by default. Children of the wind goddess, something along those lines.

You're right that he isn't supposed to pay, but they weren't supposed to give it away that easily. That's why it was irresponsible on the gods' part.

@Levanah It was implied. It was offered as a contract: pay me a set amount of sweets and you get my blessing. She then started asking for more sweets.

Let's try an analogy:
Say you get offered a contract for Internet access. You pay a set, low, amount at set intervals, and in exchange you get Internet access for the rest of your life. The Internet service provider is the one offering the contract, and is also the one who set the price in the first place. After you sign the contract the ISP then decides to crank up the price by 100%, or more, just because they can and want to. Is that not scummy?

This is that exact situation; MC = you, Goddess = ISP, and Blessing = Internet access.

>offered a contract for Internet access

Which would be a strict formal transaction guaranteed by the government, with appropriate documentation involved and appropriate penalties incurred if the terms of the contract are broken.

The deal here is a more personal (and implied to be unethical) transaction between gods and a random dude that doesn't specify anything about changing the terms of the transaction midway.

The analogy doesn't apply at all.

@Levanah Yes it does. A God/Goddess is the highest authority there is; a deal with them is way more binding than even a King's promise. And we've seen the shenanigans that ensue when Kings make drunken promises.

The Goddess set a price for her blessing. She has to stick to that price, or she's fucking scummy as all hell.

>A God/Goddess is the highest authority there is
That has nothing to do with whether a deal can be flexible or not.

>And we've seen the shenanigans that ensue when Kings make drunken promises
Because harm against their status and position as a leader is being leveraged against these kings. That doesn't apply in this case.

>She has to stick to that price
No she doesn't. What rule or force prevents them from changing the transaction? There's nothing in the deal that prevents flexibility.

>or she's fucking scummy as all hell
Or she's a childish goddess who just wants some extra sweets lol. Again, she didn't leverage taking away the blessing.

@Levanah Ok. Then imagine MC going to some other God or Goddess, and telling them about the deal. Do you think they wouldn't punish Ninnir? Or at least force her to stick to the original deal? We've seen how jealous the other Goddesses were of the sweets in recent chapters of the main series. Offer them some sweets, and MC could have Ninnir against the wall about the original deal.

No, she didn't leverage taking away the blessing. She didn't need to. It's implied, since the blessing was only offered if she got sweets in the first place. It's the 'Gun-to-Head' defense. She has the position of power. Say your employer tells you overtime is voluntary, but gives you deadlines you can't meet without overtime. They didn't force you to work overtime, but they can fire you for not meeting your deadlines. It equates to 'work overtime or you're fired'. But they never 'put a gun against your head' to force you. (Credit to Jim Sterling for that analogy).

She isn't forcing him to pay more sweets, but if he doesn't she's likely to take the blessing away. She doesn't need to leverage it.

>Do you think they wouldn't punish Ninnir?
Not really, no. They seem to be close at a personal level and they already know that Ninrir is a bratty individual. She'll probably get a light scolding at worst.

>She has the position of power.
Nope. The MC does. She wants the sweets badly, and she wants the transaction to happen far more than the MC does. He only had a mild interest in the blessings, however valuable they may be; he can break the deal off whenever he wants. Your 'gun-to-head' defense is completely off.

Well...Surely, antagonizing a goddess can have serious consequences? She's not a goddess for nothing.
That being said, this is a light hearted story; so I doubt the MC will ever be tragically attacked by anyone. But if you just want to talk hypotheticals, ignoring the idea that a god can very easily fuck you up, is a strange one. Especially a childish one that may easily not value human life like we do.

@Levanah Now you're just being inconsistent. MC has the better deal because the blessing has greater value than the sweets, but MC also has the position of power because the sweets have greater value in the deal? Fuck off, I'm done.

No I'm not. Their relationship is close to that of a powerful hopelessly drug addicted politician who owns the cure for cancer and the only drug dealer in the universe who knows how to manufacture a specific hyperaddictive drug, if that helps you visualize the power dynamic at play. The politician has more power technically but the drug dealer has a stronger leverage than the politician.

I'm not ignoring it. The MC has power over these gods despite that fact. They have every reason to keep him alive and happy, now that they're hooked on his otherworld goods. Note how MC is the one setting the amount of goods he delivers, and not the gods. Edit: Sure they demand more at times, but he's the one laying the law and they aren't doing shit about it because he's the only provider.

No. Hell no. Lifetime continuous payment of a few silvers a week for nigh invulnerability(which includes never getting sick, and never having to get dental) and an increase in magical abilities for is far from a scam. It is worth billions IRL, and certainly worth more than the gold coins MC will have to pay over a lifetime.

The only thing scummy about the transaction itself is the fact that the gods gave away ultra-rare blessings for a pittance.

Nope. The MC does. She wants the sweets badly, and she wants the transaction to happen far more than the MC does. He only had a mild interest in the blessings, however valuable they may be; he can break the deal off whenever he wants. Your 'gun-to-head' defense is completely off.

Your 'drug dealer' doesn't care about cancer, and has no interest in actually dealing 'drugs'.

He does, but only mildly.

He's not against the idea.

@Levanah OK. Your 'politician' has a follower, who forced your 'drug dealer' to hand over 'drugs' or get killed (eaten). The follower then tells the 'drug dealer' that the 'politician' can give him the cure for cancer, but only in exchange for 'drugs'.

The whole thing started with a weakling being threatened by a powerful monster, then being offered a deal by the monster's superior. The power scale was tilted against MC from the fucking start.

To make an extreme example...
The goddesses can torture the MC, and request treats to stop the torture. Even if the MC decides to bite his tongue and kill himself, it's the basic scenario of: "If I can't have you, nobody will".
The MC's of no use if he firmly declines any level of cooperation with the goddesses, might as well dispose of him. It is firmly in the MC's interests to please the gods, just as much as it is the gods' interest to be amiable with the MC -- so their relationship won't worsen so much that they enter a literal war.

But, again, hypotheticals. I just don't agree that "the MC has all the power in his hands". It is clearly a cooperative relationship, even if you think "one provides more than the other".
Aiight, enough from me about this topic.

In this particular chapter I found Sui way more bratty and spoiled than the goddess. I don't know how some of you guys can attack her yet praise Sui as "best boy".

And I agree with @Levanah. It's an amazingly good deal he got. Disease and infection were probably the single greatest threat to his continued health (since Fenrir can easily take care of more direct ones), and the blessing took care of them. For a pittance. It's not like he has to work hard for his money. He only has to provide the opposable thumbs while Fenrir and Sui kill monsters.

@AlmondMagnum It's the difference in expected maturity. Sui is basically a kid, with no responsibilities beyond having fun and learning. Ninnir is supposed to be responsible for an entire aspect of all creation.

Anyone read the original story? Ninnir only give the MC minor blessing for that weekly dorayaki. And she doesn't want the other god know about him. MC have unique power that other isekai creatures doesn't have. Mc have the upper hand from this because only him can provide that dorayaki in that isekai world
