I honestly really liked Nisekoi's hot springs event during the school trip because it felt like it bucked trends in its own way. To me, the fact that the tsundere female lead, normally the one to be the most dangerous for the male lead to run into in these situations, realizes relatively quickly what is really going on and actually works to protect the male lead and his dignity from being exposed. Not only that, but it results in an incidentally intimate moment just before he escapes to safety.
I was personally pleasantly surprised by the sequence of events. I dunno if trends were already shifting at that point, but it was still refreshing to me from what I knew of the cliches and tropes.
